Our Enterprise (an award-winning Social Enterprise and social investor in development and infrastructure projects) commissioned PRD to propose an innovative community ownership strategy for Redrow Homes’ Erskine Barracks development scheme, which will deliver circa 500 new homes on an ex-Ministry of Defence site in Wiltshire.
Community benefit had been a key consideration in the award process for the scheme and the client team had worked closely with the Wilton Community Land Trust to develop the scheme proposals.
PRD developed and proposed an innovative model for community ownership for the scheme - a Social Impact Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), which would provide the community with a share in development profits that would be used to deliver much needed community facilities.
The community engagement strategy aligned to the model also placed the community at the heart of the planning and consultation approach, comprising proposals to train and resource local people to lead peer-to-peer engagement activities that would inform the vision and Masterplan.
